COLOSSEUM ELEVATOR - CEREMONY
The elevator that will make it easier for those with mobility difficulties to visit the Colosseum has been inaugurated. “The Colosseum Archaeological Park has further expanded the already extensive usability of the monument by inaugurating an elevator that ensures that all visitors, with greater attention to those with mobility difficulties, can overcome the 100 steep steps. The construction of the elevator allows everyone, without any exclusion, to reach the gallery between the 2nd and 3rd orders, returned to fruition after a careful restoration work, with conservation and safety purposes. A space now fully perceptible in its long history also thanks to an evocative and targeted lighting system that enhances the structures, plastered surfaces and graffiti, and a didactic set-up aimed at an effective visiting experience.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in the presence of Culture Minister Gennaro San giuliano and was preceded by a special performance by the Italian Cinema Orchestra, which performed to the unforgettable notes of Oscar winner Hans Zimmer.
As of today, the Colosseum is even more of a World Heritage Site, accessible to all up to the third order from which it is possible to admire the magnificence of an extraordinary monument, a work of Romanity unparalleled in the world. Thanks to this realization, citizens and tourists will have another opportunity to enjoy, without impediments, the easiest possible visit to the Flavian Amphitheater, in the name of a truly inclusive culture,” said Minister San Giuliano.
